Bugsay Balangay is more than just a dragon boat competition—it is a movement advocating for grassroots sports development, responsible sports tourism, and a sustainable future.
Established in 2024, Bugsay Balangay positions itself as an event that fosters youth peace-building through a shared passion for sports while promoting awareness of the importance of clean rivers and waterways. This initiative aligns with the global call to action in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Organized by Butuan Dragons, Inc., with the support of the City Government of Butuan, Bugsay Balangay is envisioned to become a premier sports tourism event, celebrating the annual Balangay Festival held every May.
Bugsay Balangay contributes to the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals:
